For most of the last 60 years, the summer routine around here started at the same place. You parked at Incline Beach, grabbed something from the snack bar, and let the day organize itself from there. This summer, that door is closed. The old snack bar, tiki bar, and restrooms are gone, replaced by an active construction site that will run through mid-summer 2027, and the gravity of the season has moved west along Lakeshore Boulevard.
If you already live in Incline, the practical question isn't what's under construction. It's where everyone actually goes now. The answer, for one strange and specific summer, is Ski Beach.
What actually moved, and where
The Incline Beach House Project replaces a 60-year-old snack bar with a modern facility that includes a commercial kitchen, a bar, patio seating, and fire pits, plus expanded restrooms and a redesigned drop-off. While that build runs, IVGID moved two things residents care most about to Ski Beach:
- Food and beverage service, now run out of a new mobile trailer called the Incline Surf Shack. The menu leans tropical, with sandwiches named the Hula Pig and Cow-Abunga alongside standard beach fare. Cash is not accepted at any IVGID beach outlet.
- Music on the Beach, the concert series that has anchored summer Fridays for 15 years, now held at Ski Beach for the 2026 season only.
Incline Beach itself stays open to Picture Pass and Punch Card holders, with a temporary entrance created just west of the old one, closer to Village Boulevard. The picnic tables under the trees, the grassy field by Third Creek, and the playground are all still accessible. What's gone is the reason people used to linger there past 4 p.m.
The Wednesday and Friday rhythm at Ski Beach
Ski Beach was never designed to be the social hub. It has a boat ramp, a bocce court, a volleyball court, and a creek running through it. That's the charm and the constraint. There's more shade than at Incline Beach and less open sand, which changes how the concert crowd sets up. Low-back chairs and blankets, per IVGID's own guidance, and a layer for when the wind comes off the lake around 6.
The 2026 Music on the Beach lineup runs Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. through September 11, with names worth marking down if you're picky about your Fridays:

Access rules haven't changed. Ski Beach is a restricted-access beach, and you still need an IVGID Picture Pass or Punch Card to get through the gate. The relocation isn't a policy shift, just a geography one.
Thursday still belongs to Alibi
The one weeknight that didn't move is Thursday. Tunes on Tap, the Travel North Tahoe Nevada and Alibi Ale Works partnership, is in its third year and runs July 9 through August 27 at the Alibi Amphitheater behind Incline Public House at 931 Tahoe Blvd. Free, all ages, 7 to 10 p.m. No outside food or beverages, no dogs, low-back chairs and a warm layer encouraged for the same reason as at Ski Beach.
What matters this year is the sequencing. In previous summers, a resident could reasonably pick between Music on the Beach and Tunes on Tap on any given evening because they were on different nights and different sides of town. That still holds, but with the beach series pulled a mile down Lakeshore and running earlier, the natural pattern is Ski Beach at 4, Alibi's beer garden by 7:30. The two used to compete for attention. This summer they read more like an itinerary.
The UNR Lake Tahoe campus is the concert hall
The other place quietly absorbing the shift is the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe campus. Classical Tahoe runs its four-week festival there again this year: Summer Gala July 11, the Brubeck Jazz Summit July 12 through 17, and the orchestra and chamber series July 19 through August 9. Roxy Coss and Lucas Pino return as Brubeck's artistic directors, and the finale concert this year features participants from the 2026 Summit alongside guest artists.
Two nights before the Gala, the same campus hosts the Incline Tahoe Foundation's SUMMERFEST on Thursday, July 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., with beer tasting, brats, and live music. It's the unofficial start of Independence Day week. Sponsors include Incline Spirits & Cigars and Tunnel Creek Café, and it usually sets the tone for what people are doing the next 48 hours.
If you've ever wondered why the UNR campus feels busier every summer, this is why. Between the jazz week, the orchestral run, and SUMMERFEST bracketing it, the campus is programmed nearly every night from July 2 through August 9.
The July 4 stretch, hour by hour
Independence Day week has always been the busiest local calendar in Incline, and the 2026 version leans into the 250th anniversary of the country. The through-line, based on the schedules IVCBA and the Incline Tahoe Foundation have published, runs like this:
- Thursday, July 2, 4 to 7 p.m. – ITF SUMMERFEST at UNR Lake Tahoe.
- Friday, July 3, 8 to 10 a.m. – North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Flag Raising and Pancake Breakfast.
- Friday, July 3, 10 a.m. – Kid's Bike Parade and Local Heroes Parade.
- Friday, July 3, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Local Heroes Community Fair and BBQ at Aspen Grove, with a Washoe County Sheriff's Office meet and greet.
- Friday, July 3, 1 p.m. – Susie Scoops annual ice cream eating contest.
- Saturday, July 4, 8 a.m. to noon – IVCB Veterans Club Pancake Breakfast.
- Saturday, July 4, 12:30 p.m. until the food runs out – free BBQ at Incline Beach, presented by the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. Picture Pass required.
- Saturday, July 4, 9:30 p.m. – fireworks over the lake.
One footnote worth knowing if you're planning around it: entry through the Beach Gates on July 4 has to occur before 9 p.m., per IVGID's posted 4th of July guidance. Anyone rolling up at 9:15 hoping to catch fireworks from the sand will not get through.
The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at the Warren Edward Trepp Stage is running through the same window. Macbeth is on the boards July 3 at 7:30 p.m.; The Heart of Robin Hood plays July 4 at 4 p.m. and July 5 at 7:30 p.m. If you have out-of-town family visiting for the fireworks and want a second-day plan that isn't another BBQ, that's your answer.
What anchors the second half of summer
Once the July fireworks smoke clears, the calendar thins out but the good stuff clusters into two zones.
The first is the Championship Golf Course. Nine & Wine at Incline Village Mountain Golf Course pairs a golf hour with a rotating winery pour every Thursday from 5 p.m. Whitehall Lane is on July 23, J. Lohr on July 9. It's the least crowded evening event in town and probably the most consistently well-run.
The second is the last weekend of August. Incline Wine + Food returns August 28 and 29 at 1047 Lakeshore Blvd, and coincidentally that same Friday, Glitter Bomb closes out the Music on the Beach week at Ski Beach. If you time it right, you can walk out of the wine festival grounds, cut down Lakeshore, and catch the last set of the concert series without moving your car.
Bowl Incline at 920 Southwood is running its own summer programming this year, with events every night of the week starting June 29, and Sam Choy's Ohana Diner serving Hawaiian-influenced diner food both in the lanes and on the patio. It's the fallback plan when the wind kicks up off the lake and outdoor concerts don't seem worth the layer.
A resident's playbook for one unusual summer
The simple way to read the 2026 season is this. The map of where you actually spend evenings has narrowed to four points: Ski Beach for Wednesday and Friday concerts, the Alibi Amphitheater for Thursdays, the UNR Lake Tahoe campus for anything with sheet music, and Aspen Grove and Incline Beach for the July 4 stretch. Everything else, from Bowl Incline to the Golf Course wine series to the Shakespeare Festival, fills in around those anchors.
For anyone who's owned a home here for more than a couple of years, the muscle memory has to be rebuilt. The old default of "just head to Incline Beach and figure it out" doesn't work in 2026. It will again in 2027, when the new Beach House opens with its commercial kitchen, patio, and fire pits. Between now and then, Ski Beach has one summer to be something it was never really designed to be, and residents get a rare year of seeing the community reorganize itself around a temporary center.
